How to compare two PDFs
- Add both documents. The first is the original, the second the new one.
- Check the order. Swapping them turns removals into additions.
- Press Compare. The text of both is read and lined up.
- Read the result, or download it as a plain text report.
Why comparing without uploading matters here
The documents people most want to compare are the ones they least want to hand over.
Two versions of a contract, an agreement before and after someone else's edits, a policy with changes you did not make. Every online comparison tool asks for both files. Here the comparison happens in your browser, and the page declares a Content Security Policy that forbids sending them anywhere.
It compares words, not layout
Fonts, spacing and page breaks do not count. Only the words do.
This is what you want when the question is «what changed in the text», and not what you want if the question is «does this look different». A document reflowed onto different pages, with identical wording, will come back as identical — correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Are the documents uploaded anywhere?
No. Both are read in your browser, on your own device, and neither leaves it.
Does it work on scanned documents?
No. A scan is an image of text, not text, so there is nothing to compare. The tool says so instead of returning an empty result.
What does the downloaded report contain?
The names of both documents, the counts of unchanged, removed and added words, and the differences page by page, as plain text you can keep or send on.
Does the order of the two files matter?
Yes. The first is treated as the original and the second as the new version: swapping them turns every removal into an addition.
